Elect Neil Chaudhary for Police Commission

The Experience that Matters
Neil Chaudhary is running for Newtown Police Commission. Dr. Chaudhary’s experience makes him uniquely qualified for the position. He is currently an active member of the Newtown Police Commission. He has had over 20 years of experience working with law enforcement agencies across the country, including the Newtown’s Police Department.The Police Commission serves as the Town’s Traffic Authority. Neil’s expertise as one of the Nation’s leading traffic safety scientists will provide the commission and the police department with facts driven information from which to base final decisions.

Dr. Chaudhary has been a longtime volunteer for the Town. As Vice Chairman of Newtown’s legislative council (and member for 5-years), Neil has learned the ins and outs of day-to-day operations and processes that can also benefit this 5-member commission with their deliberations. Additionally, Neil helped draft several town ordinances in his role on the ordinance committee for the council.

Neil is a former member of the Newtown Public Safety Committee (the Town’s Oversight to the Garner Correctional Facility) and the former Legislative Council Liaison to that committee. Neil served on the Town’s Tick-borne Disease Action Committee where he honed his knowledge of deer vehicle crashes including effective countermeasures to prevent such crashes. He is a current member of the Newtown’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Neil’s state and national experience also enhance his “fit” for the Police Commission. In Connecticut, he helped with the formation of the teen novice driving laws; the development of the current crash reporting form used by our police and; provided research that shaped our current distracted driving laws. He is a member of CT’s Safe Teen Driver Committee; the CT DOT’s DUI Task Force and the CT DOT’s Occupant Protection Task Force. He has presented his research at several state Law Enforcement Summits organized by the State DOT.

Dr. Chaudhary is a current member of the National Academy of Science and Engineers standing committee on occupant protect, a current member of the young driver committee,  and a former member of the committee on alcohol and other drugs. He serves as a science advisor for the distracted driver committee for national lifesavers conference organization. He was among a small number of scientists invited to provide testimony to NTSB on his research on distracted driving. Dr. Chaudhary has published scores of articles and been invited to present his work both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Chaudhary is regularly asked to present to law enforcement across the nation and recently helped develop the National Survey of Law Enforcement for the United States Government.
